Post-Mortem

This was the first time I entered into a weekly game jam, and I had a lot of fun making a game in one week.

Things I did well:

1. I think that the art for my game worked well, as everything was made with the same colour palette.

2. Making the core gameplay. Making the three weapons was not only fun but I also got to try making different weapons without having to deal with making an inventory system.

3. Using the theme in a unique way. I wanted to make a game that was inspired by "rock, paper, scissors", but still had it's own twist. Making three elements which had a "rock, paper, scissors" idea behind them allowed me to do more with the game, and I think I would have been more limited if I had make a game directly inspired by "rock, paper, scissors".

Things I could have done better:

1. The gameplay loop. One piece of feedback I got was that the game was too repetitive. For the next game jam, I would do more testing early on, to make sure that the game not only works but also has an interesting gameplay loop behind it.

2. The music. I started working on the music on the last day, and I didn't have nearly enough time to make music that sounded good and which I was proud of.

3. The menu. The Main Menu was also done on the last day, and I didn't have enough time to make a title screen or a good looking menu.

For the next game jam, I would try to spend more time on the music and menus of the game, and I would focus on making a gameplay loop that is fun, even if it means making less levels or art, as making three enemies and two stages was probably what took up most of my time. I also tried using some new tools that I had little experience working with, which also took up some time. However,t his was an extremely fun experience and I look forward on the next theme!
